Sione - The Legend Of Kahukura The God Of War & Rainbows

Today I did some reading on the story of Kahukura. Kahukura has a grandpa named Uenuku and he is the God of war and rainbows the same as Kahukura. Something I found difficult was reading the story because at that time I wasn't bothered to read but I still read it. Something I found easy was writing the information about Kahukura.

Something I found easy was doing what goes together because it was a simple activity to do. Here Is My Work Below!

Pablo Picasso Art Cubism Final Drawing

Pablo Picasso Art - Cubism Final Drawing

Last moth we began our cubism portraits based on Pablo Picasso's cubism art. In cubism you can play around with lots of shapes. The facial features like your eyes, nose, mouth and ears can be in different shapes and places. We did two practice drawings before completing our final product. (You can read my blogs about them here Picasso #1 Picasso #2 ).

Something I noticed about my classmates art I think all of us split the faces gave different designs to theirs, some people moved their noses eyes mouth around and put them in different places.

Something I found interesting was some of my class mates they put one part of their mouth in one spot and the other in a different place. Something I found interesting was that Pablo Picasso changed his art over time.

Something I found difficult was drawing because i'm not the best drawer so I was struggling to draw. Some of my classmates one looks awesome because they did one side and the other was way different to their other side.

For this picture I wanted to focus on cubism and playing around with the shapes. I like cubism because you can play around with the shapes and move them around you can also move body parts.

Here Is My Final Picture!

The season lent comes after the ordinary time. Lent is a season for prayer, alms giving and fasting. The other potential season is advent. Lent prepares us for the feast of Easter.  People use lent as a time of renewal and spiritual growth to focus on their relationship with Jesus.

Soul Friend Mass/St Patrick's Day & Ash Wednesday

 Soul Friend Mass/St Patrick's & Ash Wednesday

Today at St Pius X we had a very special mass. This mass is special because we celebrated three important occasions for our school. They are, St Patrick's Day, Soul Friends and Ash Wednesday. As we journey in the fourth week of lent, today we honour St. Patrick who is the patron saint of the Irish people and The Holy Faith Sisters who started our school, more than sixty years ago, who were from Ireland. They brought with them the beautiful idea of Soul Friends.

In the early Irish Church people chose someone wise to be their soul friend. This friend is a person they can talk to and share their experiences in life. They seek his or her advice and share their joy and worries. They often prayed together. They Looked out for each other. They make commitment to do this yet live their own lives separately. We model this relationship in our school. It was introduced to us by the Holy Faith Sisters who started St. Pius X School more than sixty years ago. It is a beautiful relationship, where the older students look out for the younger ones and vice versa.

We had our ash Wednesday ashes today because we had lock down and we had it a second time but we went back to level one so we did it today.

St. Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland St. Patrick StPatrick, for example, is the patron saint of Ireland because he is credited with bringing Christianity to the Irish people. In Roman Catholicism a person often elects a personal patron saint during their confirmation.

Pablo Picasso Art - Cubism Drawing #1

Pablo Picasso Art - Cubism Drawing #1

Yesterday the 9th of March Te Wairua Pakiki 4 (TWP 4) did some art that is based on Pablo Picasso cubism art.

Pablo Picasso Is a famous artist who plays around with his art. He uses cubism for his art work. I will show some of his work down below.

In cubism you can play around with lots of shapes. The facial features like your eyes, nose, mouth and ears can be in different shapes and places. Our teacher said "Cubism is that it looks as if the painting dropped and cracked, and was rearranged when put back together".

When we looked at pictures we noticed that the eyes, mouth, ears and nose were in different places and the shapes were different.

After our teacher demonstrated and we saw lots of examples it was our turn to draw.

Step 1: In pencil, draw your head, any shape will work. You can use a mirror or draw from your imagination.

Step 2: Add your facial features, eyes, noses, mouth, etc. Try to use shapes your noticed in your discussion.

Step 3: Add your hair. What lines can you use to look like hair.

International Womens Day

 International Women's Day

On the 8th of March was International Women's Day. In our class we did an activity to challenge the stereotypes and bias of both male and female roles within our society. We first had to get into same gender groups. We then wrote down the positives and challenges of the opposite gender. The boys wrote about the positives and challenges for females and the girls wrote about the positives and challenges of being male.

After we came up with some in ideas in our group we then joined our groups with opposite gender. Women had more challenges. For example women  had lots of challenges around expectations of raising and looking after the family. On the other hand, males had more positives. For example me can play and get paid professionally for sport, get to sleep in and are fathers.

We also said that a challenge for a male is that they have to provide for the family and have to always be brave.

Something we learnt from this is males and females aren't considered equal in lots of aspects of life.

Here is our activity we did.

Can you add any more stereotypes to this

Great Big Hearing Check 2021

 Great Big Hearing Check 2021

Today during our morning distance learning  meeting we found out that this week is the ‘Great Big Hearing Check 2021’ week. Triton Hearing is running a fundraising event and awareness campaign.

This March, Triton Hearing is checking your hearing for FREE to help raise awareness for hearing loss in New Zealand. If you complete the hearing test they will donate $1 to National Foundation for deaf and Hard of Hearing.

Something I liked about this test is that it donates to the charity and it tests your hearing which is cool so you know if your hearing is good.
